About the manufacturing details of the lamp reflector prototype

The following is a list of requirements from customers:
  • Project: Aluminium mirror for optical testing
  • Material: Aluminum 7075 or 7022
  • Technology: CNC milling or micro milling
  • Details: The milling radius of the optical surface is close to the CAD data, R0.1 or R0.15mm
  • Quality: mirror polished, surface area finish Ra0.05μm, surface accuracy scan ±0.05mm
  • Quantity: 1 left and 1 right

Five-axis CNC precision machining

In order to ensure the best surface area processing quality under proper milling conditions, minimal disassembly processing can be allowed, and the very best fit between the optical surface and the PCB bracket mounting surface should be evaluated. Optical surface area processing uses ball-end milling cutters below D0.5mm, even diamond milling cutters, and the processing radius of the inner corner is R0.1-R0.15mm.

Manual mirror polishing

Manual polishing or the subsequent electroplating process is an optional process. If necessary, the surface roughness must be measured to check the quality of the optical surface before further digesting (polishing, metallization). The final surface area roughness after polishing reaches Ra (μm) 0.025-0.05, and the rounded corner of the sharp edge of the outer corner does not exceed R0.1mm

Measuring and scanning

It is required to perform 3D scanning and roughness measurement twice on the optical surface (after CNC machining, after manual polishing). The surface roughness after CNC machining is Ra (μm) 0.2, and it will reach Ra (μm) within 0.05 after manual polishing. The top accuracy tolerance of all process scans ought to be controlled within ±0.05mm.
